Defender Sightings is run by Silver Trading OÜ, Rannaniidu tee, Viimsi 74011, Estonia. Silver Trading OÜ is the controller of the personal data described below. If you have any question about your data, write to info@defendersightings.com and an answer will follow within 14 days.
This page explains what is collected, why, how long it is kept and what you can ask to have done with it. It covers this website, the sightings map, the newsletter and the shop.
What is collected and why
When you submit a sighting
The submission form asks for your name, your Instagram handle, the city and country where you spotted the Defender, and your photo. This is used to publish the sighting on the map and on Instagram and to credit you. The legal basis is your consent, given when you send the form. Submissions are stored in the website database (Contact Form 7 and Flamingo) and kept for as long as the sighting stays on the map. Ask, and your sighting and the underlying record will be removed.
When you order from the shop
To send you a sticker, Silver Trading OÜ needs your name, delivery address, email address and, if you give one, your phone number. The legal basis is the contract between us. Order records are kept for seven years because Estonian accounting law requires it.
Payments are handled by Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd. Your card number never reaches this website — you enter it in Stripe’s own payment form, and only the amount, the last four digits and whether the payment succeeded are visible to Silver Trading OÜ. Stripe processes the payment as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.
Your delivery address is passed to the postal operator (Omniva) so that the parcel can be delivered.
When you join the newsletter or the waitlist
Only your email address is collected, and nothing else. The legal basis is your consent. The list is managed by MailerLite (UAB MailerLite, Lithuania). Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes you from the list.
When you just read the site
The hosting provider and the security plugins (Wordfence, BBQ Firewall) log IP addresses, browser type and requested pages so that attacks can be blocked and the site kept online. The legal basis is the legitimate interest of Silver Trading OÜ in a working, secure website. These logs are kept for up to 30 days.
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 records anonymised statistics about which pages get read. Nothing here identifies you personally, and it only runs after you accept — see the Cookie Policy.
Content loaded from other companies
Some parts of the site are loaded from third-party servers, which means your IP address reaches them when the page opens:
- Instagram / Meta — the feed of recent sightings on the front page.
- OpenStreetMap contributors — the map tiles behind the sightings map.
- Google Fonts — the typefaces used across the site.
- Stripe — the payment form and its fraud checks at checkout.
Who else sees your data
Silver Trading OÜ does not sell personal data and does not share it for anyone else’s marketing. It is shared only with the companies that make the site work: the hosting provider (IONOS), Stripe, MailerLite, Omniva and, where you have accepted cookies, Google. Where any of them process data outside the European Economic Area, they do so under the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask Silver Trading OÜ to:
- tell you what data is held about you and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your data, unless it must legally be kept (order records, for example);
- restrict or object to how it is used;
- send your data to another service in a machine-readable file;
- withdraw consent at any time — that stops future processing but does not undo what was lawful before.
Write to info@defendersightings.com and a response will follow within 14 days. If you are not happy with that answer, you can complain to the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon), Tatari 39, Tallinn 10134, info@aki.ee, www.aki.ee.
Children
This site is not aimed at children under 13, and their data is not knowingly collected. If you believe a child has sent something, get in touch and it will be deleted.
Changes to this policy
If the handling of data changes, this page and the date at the top are updated. Substantial changes affecting the newsletter or the shop are announced by email.
